Design & Develop

While I mostly design textile prints, I have also designed wallpaper, logos, packaging, and sewing patterns. I think the thing that makes me unique is my diverse experience and flexibility. I started my career in the garment industry but have also worked with home textiles, gift products, and quilt fabrics. Having a background in product development gives me an understanding of what businesses need and the pressures they are under. Do you have a design project you need help with? I would be happy to help.

Design Process

Inspiration can come from anywhere; a museum visit, a vintage swatch, a book. I often pull images together on a design board and create a Pinterest board to help me refine my design ideas. At this point I start sketching. I might pull Pantone colors. The next step is often painting…generally with gouache but I also use inks and watercolor. I also often illustrate directly in Adobe Illustrator with a Wacom tablet. Once the initial paintings or digital illustrations are done, I put the design into repeat for production.

When I am working with a client on a design project I generally mock up a few ideas with different options for the client to see. Based on feedback, I will refine the design until we get to what the client is looking for. I really enjoy helping bring a vision to life.
